UBC Sauder的申请都有经历一个机器面试的过程。在该面试中,学生会需要回答一个1分钟的问题,并且通过问题的回答体现自己的部分能力,比如说团队合作、解决问题、交流、时间管理等技能。当然,由于1分钟的面试能够展现的学生能力较少,所以面试主要考量的技能还有学生的口语表达能力。Sauder是一个极其注重团队合作以及交流的科系,所以对于学生的口语能力有比较严格的要求。
面试题目类别一:克服困难型
UBC Sauder 面试克服困难型题目样例:
- Talk about a time when you had to work closely with someone whose personality was very different from yours.
- Describe a time when you saw some problem and took the initiative to correct it rather than waiting for someone else to do it.
- Give me an example of a time you faced a conflict while working on a team. How did you handle that?
在UBC的招生准则中,十分注意的一点就是在遇到困难时,学生不应当展现出Avoidance of Challenges的态度。所以,此类题型主要考虑的就是申请者的Rigour。就是说,当面对困难时,学生要有积极、主动的态度处理问题。
所以,面对克服困难型的问题,学生要体现出以下能力:
- 面对困难的勇气:When facing this situation, I felt determined to deal with it immediately.
- 使用明确的形容词(determined)表明态度。
- 克服问题的能力:I soon started planning to deal with all the challenging tasks in front of me.
- 明确讲述克服困难的思路(planning to deal with challenging tasks)
- 执行计划的能力:I split the week before deadline into many small time slots, arranging specific tasks to fill these time slots.
- 明确说明如何完成计划(arranging tasks to fill these time slots)
面试题目类别二:团队合作型
UBC Sauder 面试团队合作型题目样例:
- Give me an example of a time you faced a conflict while working on a team. How did you handle that?
- Give me an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way.
- How do you maintain a relationship with a teammate you don’t like?
对于Sauder来说,能否参与团队合作是招生工作主要考量的标准。Sauder倡导的是一种inclusive, equal以及respectful的团队合作环境。也就是说,申请人要体现自己能够没有偏见地容纳不同背景的组员,在各个组员能力不同的情况下,以团队利益最大化为原则,努力促进自己团队可以不断前进,激励所有组员为团队做出最大化的贡献。
面对团队合作型的问题,申请者需要体现以下品质:
- 包容别人错误的品质:I understanded that problems do happen to everyone in a team, so I told him that we should work together to cope with the side effects caused by his errors.
- 尊重组员的品质:I was aware that as a young mother, it is understandable that she could not always be on time for the meeting, so I tried to comfort her by saying, “I totally understand the difficult situation you are facing, and I believe we would need a new plan for our project management”.
- 平等的对待每一个组员:I was aware that his lack of understanding in accounting was caused by the fact that he had not taken the accounting course yet, so I explained the concepts to him patiently.
面试题目类别三:领导力考核型
UBC Sauder 面试领导力考核型题目样例:
- What qualities should a leader have?
- If you are a team leader, how would you assign tasks to your team members. Be specific.
- Do you think having multiple team leaders in a team will affect team efficiency?
对于任何团队合作来说,领导力并不是一个领导才能拥有的品质。领导力的源泉在于一个人有激情去负担并不是自己职责范围的东西,从而带领团队向一个更好的方向迈进。对于任何一个团队来说,领导力都是不可缺少的,因为那些具有领导力的组员总可以让团队不断挑战自己的极限,从而走向更好的团队目标。
对于领导力的要求,申请者一般需要展现如下品质:
- 团队效率最大化:As a leader, I have realized that Aaron is always able to share more responsibilities in the team, so I have provided the most challenging parts of work for him to cope with.
- 团队氛围最积极:I actively inspired all team members to speak out during the meeting, thus allowing everyone express their inspiration related to this project.
- 团队协调最紧密:I provided everyone with a worksheet for them to update their weekly tasks and goals, thus making every team members to see the work update of each other.
